Defaults
Software
- miniflux, a minimalistic feed reader that I self-host (also available as a hosted service for 15 usd/year).
- paperless-ngx, a self-hosted document management system.
- syncthing, a peer-to-peer continuous file synchronization program. I use it to sync data between my devices without having to rely on paid cloud services.
- obsidian, for taking notes. It sports great features, like live rendering markdown notes. It’s used by a large community of people, with endless useful plugins. And while proprietary, it does not lock you in – it’s just a folder filled with markdown files.
- fastmail, for email. I use a custom domain for my email to decouple the address from the service provider. That way I can change my email provider however I like without having to migrate an endless amount of accounts to a new address. And with email being such a fundamental element of modern digital life, I find it important to have it independent from big tech (who are notorious for locking you out of your email accounts for no good reason).
